What To Do If Your Mortgage Company Locks Your Account

ByJoshua Denbeaux February 6, 2024April 1, 2025

Dealing with mortgage companies can be stressful, especially if your finances are tight. Struggling to pay your mortgage payments can make working with your mortgage company even more difficult and overwhelming. If you’re struggling to make payments, your customer service relationship with your lender can quickly take a turn for the worse.

Having issues with your lender can add to mortgage issues and add to your stress. It’s not uncommon for a mortgage lender to lock borrowers out of their online accounts when they’re facing delinquent payments or foreclosure. However, these practices make it even more difficult for you to try to fix the situation with your mortgage. An attorney can help you contact your mortgage lender and help you with any issues.

Contact Denbeaux Law today to learn more about how we may be able to help with mortgage lender issues.

Locked Mortgage Account

There are sometimes issues with mortgage companies locking people out of their online mortgage accounts when they’re in default. Nowadays, most people opt to get their mortgage statements online, but that means that if you get locked out of your account, you won’t be able to get your statements or access any other mortgage information.

If you’re locked out of your mortgage account, you won’t be able to get into your account to change your statement preferences to paper statements. You could miss important information about your mortgage if you’re not able to access your account or get paper statements.

What To Do If You’re Locked Out Of Your Online Mortgage Portal

The only thing you can really do if you find yourself in this situation is to contact your lender and ask how to get your account preference transferred to paper statements. If you’re having issues with your lender, an attorney can help you work with your lender.

Taking preventative steps is a good idea if you are already in default but still have access to your online account or think you will be in default soon. To avoid being stuck in a situation where you can’t access your mortgage statements in the future, you can change your preference now to paper statements.

We recommend that you get all of your mortgage statements and documents sent via paper so you can easily access these documents when you need them. You’re not reliant on your mortgage lender’s online system and customer service.
